Become a Certified Football Official in Southern Maine

No prior experience is required! We provide comprehensive training, free study guides, and hands-on clinics to help you learn everything you need to know. Our experienced mentors will guide you every step of the way.

Your first year is completely free—no membership dues required! After your first year, there are nominal annual dues to support the organization, but you'll already be earning compensation from officiating games.

The schedule is flexible! You control how many games you want to officiate. Most games are on Friday nights and Saturday mornings during the fall season. Initial training clinics are held in the summer, but they're scheduled to accommodate various availability.

Compensation varies by level and experience. Starting officials typically earn between $50-$75 per game, while experienced varsity and NCAA officials can earn significantly more. It's a great way to earn money while staying involved in the sport you love.

You'll need a referee uniform (black and white striped shirt, black pants, black shoes), a whistle, penalty flags, and a few other accessories. We'll provide you with a complete list and recommendations on where to purchase affordable equipment. Many officials recoup their initial investment after just a few games.

Absolutely! We welcome and encourage women to join our officiating community. Football officiating is open to everyone who has a passion for the game and a commitment to fair play. We have several outstanding female officials in our organization.
